The One Player Chelsea Must Sell this Summer

The One Player Chelsea Must Sell this SummerHaving won another European Trophy, Chelsea are flying high in the continent. However, as far as the English league is concerned, Blues have been largely average in the past two seasons taking into consideration the fact that they have such a quality squad. Reinforcements are inevitable and so are departures.
As Mourinho’s return draws closer, much has been discussed about who will Chelsea sign in the upcoming transfer market. An aspect not discussed a lot is who will leave Stamford Bridge. Of all the options, who is the one player Chlesea must sell this summer.
No points for guessing, the thumbnail has the answer. Although not all, or perhaps majority will disagree with this opinion but in the list of departures, Fernando Torres should be on the top.
One does not need to mention his overall record for Chelsea as it has been quite awful especially in the premier league. He is one of the main reasons why the Blues have been so far behind the Manchester clubs competing for the league title.
The former Liverpool man scored more league goals for the reds even in his worst (half) season with them (9) and only (8) with Chelsea in his best ever season thus far.
Although one cannot deny that Torres was influential in Europa League and was clearly one of the players of the tournament but still the Spaniard is not someone Chelsea can rely on week in week out in the league as he has been bizarrely inconsistent.
In two and a half seasons, El Nino has only been able to score mere 15 times in the league for the blues that is still 9 goals fewer than his league tally for Liverpool in his first season. Adding to that, Chelsea sold Sturridge to Liverpool in January and even he has scored more league goals (10) than Torres in half a season.
Chelsea fans started booing him for his clueless performances but well it is understandable that the supporters now have a soft spot for him because of his heroics in the Europa League. However, if the Blues want to be a force to be reckoned with in England like they were then the fans have to keep emotions aside and Torres needs to depart.
As mentioned previously on the site, Chelsea are ready to splash millions to sign a striker as they are clearly missing someone who could score 20+ league goals for them since Drogba did in 2009-10 season.
Torres hopes to continue with Chelsea and somehow win his first league medal next season but it is likely that the Spaniard will have to leave Stamford Bridge to make way for a new star striker. Surely at 29, Fernando will not like to warm the bench.
In your Opinion, Should Chelsea sell Fernando Torres?

Napoli linked but his family happy in England . agree CFC don need him

    • Chris Brown says:

I totally agree. I really like the guy, but in two years has shown no consistency despite having a really creative team around him. Another player who needs to go is Mikel. Nowhere near world class. He would suit Stoke where the long ball and no ball retention or creation is required!

    • Joseph kibathi says:

      Let hm go,he’s done great

  2. Israel says:

Yes i agree wit the writter that fenando torres should leav but i totally disagree wit the club trying to sell davide luiz, i beg mou to stay claer if his coming will b to sell luiz cos we cant do wit out him, cos he entertain us alot, get rid of tores, bring in lewandoski bring back kevin debrunce, nathaniel and mccharan, felleni to hold our sentral midfild, bluzzz 4ever

    • djsav says:

Israel the club have not said they want to sell David Luiz, if anything Roman wants Chelsea to build the team around him as he sees him the future club captain. So dont worry there is no way Chelsea will sell one of the their best players despite Jose coming back. I can actually see Jose and Luiz being very tight at Chelsea, him along with Mata, Hazard, Oscar, Ramires, and Lukuku. Not forgettint the rest of the players.
On Torres going uless we get Cavani, or Falcou i would keep him and maybe sell Ba.
      CFC FOR LIFE!!

  3. Marco says:

Soccerisma, This is the most outrageous lecture of the problems within Chelsea I have ever come to read,
For one you do not seem to know how many goals Torres has score this season neither do you know how important are the one he scored; perhaps you would have liked him netting all the penalties Chelsea were given on top what he’d achieved. It ‘s about time one change their attitude in judging others unilaterally.
Chelsea in transition is in progress as I understand.

    • Scored 22 goals this season YES and very significant in winning EL as mentioned where he did score important goals.
BUT the focus is on PL where Chelsea have been torrid for the past couple of years.
      14 games 1 goal (10-11)
      32 games 6 goals (11-12)
      36 games 8 goals (12-13)
Wont make any sense if anyone comes out to defend Torres’s PL form does it ?

  4. Varun says:

No, Nando is doing a brilliant work with mata oscar and hazzard , eventhough he is not scoring too many goals he is contributing reasonably well with fantastic assists in others goals and the whole team has faith in him and everybody loves him . Give him another year and be faithful .

  5. Liam says:

Yes we need to offload Torres and David Luiz.Torres just doesn’t do enough or score enough and Luiz has been
at fault directly for 12 goals conceded and when he plays in midfield he ball watches too much.Get as much as we can for them both.

    • fidel nthiwa says:

why r you tolkin about our future captin king david plzs stop !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tok about mikel or benayoun plzs

  6. ajang nuhu.D says:

    Yes,chelsea need Torrest.

  7. peter says:

I am 100% sure that FERNANDO TORRES wont survive this transfer season..Chelsea need MIDFEILDERS…CREATIVE and PERFECT…EDEN HAZARD is Overated…Some times i wonder who brought Cesar Azpilicueta to CHELSEA,,,Juan Mata is not that creative midfielder that CHELSEA needed in a big match.,,,,Eden Hazard and Oscar are not STRONG to face big teams,,, PAUL FERREIRA,,,FLORENT MALOUDA,,YOSSI BENAYOUN,,ROSS TURNBULL,,,HILARIO need to leave chelsea.

    • cfc says:

Here is a a manu fan I guess. Why are you so jealous

    • willy says:

where on earth are you from, complete mumu. who told you mata is not that creative, mata is the best creative medfielder in england, Eden Hazard and Oscar are world class players. only God knows where you are from (Elami)

    • west says:

Peter if u re truly a chelsea fan . U should be hit on the head with an axe. Ceser as been consistent to say the least. Mata’s creativity is second to non. Hazard is a potential world beater. Oscar not far behind

    • fidel nthiwa says:

r you nowonder u man u fan can’t tok about top assist in epl

  8. Eugene Kwao says:

Toress is noe the best strikers in Europe but he is coming back. He got 23 goals in all competitions this season which is not so bad. He will not hv that much pressure on him when Jose arrives cos he will play a 4-3-3. He will surely shine.
P.S. D.c. Luiz shd stay if we r planning to get better.will b silly to sell him now

  9. Mick says:

Spot on. Should’ve happened a while back.
He’s been the thorn in our side from day one
and we even have other, probably better, options.
At some point Romans gotta give up letting
Torres try to prove himself. Good article btw.

  10. williams akanji says:

Am in support of him being sold. Chelsea have tried to accommodate him enough. The fact that he excelled in Europa League will make some clubs have interest in him. He should try his luck elsewhere.

  11. ok justine says:

he scored more goals than the likes of tevez aguero and even roony this season.give him another year and he will do exactly wat u want.

    • willy says:

Rafa Benitez simply had no plan B, torres and Ba might be different players under jose. Chelsea do not need to sign any striker as they have LUKAKU who scored a hat trick on the final day of the season against manchester united.

  12. zwitt says:

why the fuss over Torres?when Demba ba scored just twice for Chelsea as against 10 from Sturidge in Lvp.somthing is wrong with all top rated signings…they flop

  13. Tonnie says:

@ chris brown, thank God u r not the chris brown i know and certainly know nothing about football. If mikel goes pls tell me where u will get a player of his standard to replace him? And in case u dont know he have had a bad season highly due to injuries and internaltional duty.

  14. enuoffu says:

fernando torres doesnt score every time but,he is always either creating or winning lost balls for cfc. No one, i think will crucify me for saying that whenever we are down both on performance and scoreline and torres comes on to the pitch, things drastically change.

  15. martin oscar says:

please let mou not selk luiz if nt he will start havin problem wit our fans nd players

  16. martin oscar says:

mou shuld get lukaku for us nd sell either tores or baa to buy lewy or falcoa

  17. enuoffu says:

if you talk about player that are surplus to requirement at the BRIDGE are as follows(1)Henrique Hilario=for not being good enough for chelseafc cariber(2)Ross turnbull:Matej should take up the no3 goalkeeping spot not ross dat concided 8+2 cool goals 4 boro in 2008 season(3)why give A.S one more year while we have two left back in Ryan and the guy dat went 2 wigan(4)with due respect i think Branislav is surplus to requirement cos the potential arrival of wallace, returning of todd kane from loan and the experience of aspilicueta to aid the younger ones (5and6) respectively ramires and Marin, ramires has no technical abililty as a renown Brasilian and marin no bussiness whatsoever at this great club CFC.

  18. Kelvin says:

Yes, yes & yes… Let Torres go pls he has don noting compeared to the 50million we use in bying him, he has nt even work the money of his jessey!.. Addition to this, i heard mouluda is nwn playing band for a musician, pls let him remend ther oo, we need him no more!! N also ferriera, turnbull, hilario, marin n ake.. Let dis players go and bring back Lukaku, sign in: falcao, arda turan n rues… Am a chelsae fan and mourhino fan 4life… Welcome back the “special one”

  19. Austine says:

Torres wil be d hotest striker da we wil mis nest sesson ‘if he liv bether dont toch da dial

  20. s'n'b says:

torres is a gud player i fink we shuld jez try n gve him more to recover bcos i still believe in him n @u y we u say they shuld offload ake n marin, dnt u know dat both are gud but i fink cfc shuld loan them instead of selling.up blues!!!!

  21. Abiodun balogun says:

I dn’t think sellin torres is a beter idear coz he az been fantast¡c this season…..CFC shud jst give d last chance….we all knw that he is a word class player at LVP and Atlet¡co…….so pls

  22. rayvon says:

i think torres shud not go,the person who shud be going z demba…he has done nothing compared to torres..

  23. lanex says:

Guys stop giving your mind hell, torres will go nowhere he is nt for sale, tunbul rose, ferreira, marin on loan, hillario have to leave the club bringing lukaku ,courtois, kelvin de bruyne and lucas piazon back to chelsea fc…….then buy atleast 1striker young and strong e.g wilfred bony ,lewandski or cavani….
    Carefully & ktbffh

  24. valentino says:

lets leave fernando for another year because he will be great under mou lets chelsea sell that useless ba and bring in courtious and lukaku

  25. NARZ AYOBAMI says:

@ Chris Brown,if you are a coach, who would u buy when you sell Mikel, Xabi Alonso? i’m not sure you are a truly chelsea fan & @ Enofu so if u are chelsea coach u will pick ryan over ashly cole & free a versatile player like ivanovic?

  26. amimo says:

I also think torres should b gven some more chances coz hes bn fantastic in his assists.n anytme hes bn comin in da pitch a difference has always bin noticed.hes a nice guy

  27. Kehinde pele says:

Y did u say torres av bin doin fantastic tins dis season?chelsea lose 6 trophies out of 7 trophies, wot is fantastic tin he has done, mtcheeeeeew.

  28. Reelex says:

Well it think chelsea should give torres one more chance cos i still believe on him we might need him next season

  29. tafaranashe says:

please, Torres failed to show his excellent in a blue shirt, so let him go and try his luck out there because we have to give room to our young stars piazon and our (west brom) top goal scorer lukaku, who has managed to score a hattrick against our rivals man u.plus as itz said chelsea has to sign a world class striker it wont be good for chelsea to wacth chelsea football on the bench like any other fans.mourinho must not sell our upcoming skipper luiz, as hez the horse of the team

  30. Mina says:

the special one coming back will transform the team and if u ask me he knows who is suppose to be shown the exit door but for me Tores, Ferrari, Malouda, Bertrant, Ashley C, J T, Benayoud, Essan, Aspilacuta, Tunbull should leave Chelsea for good

  31. kwame says:

sell ake? Out! Marin, mikel, fereira, torres, malouda, hilario, cahill, essien

  32. Ezeah Jude says:

What do u guys think about the £80m deal for Madrid star, Christiano Ronaldo?

  33. Sanmi Omole says:

To say the true Torres diserve to live so that chelsea can be able to sign another strong and fast striker, i mean striker that know how to score goal

  34. Tokunbo says:

@marco thanks for ur comment.how many goals did Rooney scored dis season compared to Torress? how many assist did walcott had compared to him? even d writer of dis story shld be hit wit hammer on d head.is he a footballer or a bus driver? lets keep our arms crossed till next season. welcome back the “Special One”

  35. Jorge says:

It is obvious that only a few of the fans of this great club truly understands football. The problem we have had in a couple of seasons is really not the Strikers, but the midfielders that have played with them. Drogbas greatest season in Chelsea was when he had a Ballack, Deco, Lampard, Essien, Malouda and Anelka all playing for him. What do we have today? Mata, the one legged player we have all shouted: For me he is still not in the class of Players that played for Drogba. We need Midfielders that can deliver the killer Passes to our strikers. As for Mourinho, i am not ok with him returning. If he could not deliver with the players at Madrid, i wonder what he can do with the Kids we have here. Bring in a C Ronaldo, and a creative Midfielder like Gotze and see what becomes of Torres again.

  36. Tijani says:

I am fully in support of torrest exit bcs he contribut nothing to the club, second morinho can‘t do with torres.

  37. zeeshan says:

Whats a striker’s job? To score goals or PL goals? Use common sense plx.

  38. jd says:

wow…..mata no creative enough..silly….am kenyan, and man u fans are scared of the little mata.
its a fact i thought nando should go until ba came and realized we need ball playing striker, with mata hazard and oscar,i think they need rooney….fellaini and league s for chelsea for 2yrs.chelsea wll be stupid not to bring lukaku, debyrne and courtis to compete for number,……………debyrne is better than moses, marin.
mikel is a great player, his slow pace in mildfield is an advantage people never realize……….thats why mikel and makelele were succesful cup winners and alonso is not.wait and till we meet a better team than chelsea and you will notice only mikel can cool down that game.
my doubt is,is schurles better than debryne…….thanks

  39. dejavu says:

Torres has done well dis season so I dnt tink cfc should sel I’m…let’s wait nd see wot apns next season

  40. Eugene says:

4 me i think torres shouid go

  41. Marc CFC/BKK says:

Why does everyone keep getting at Mikel; do they not watch Chelsea, Mikel does his job and does it very well, management tactics dependent. He breaks down the opposing midfield attacking play incredibly well and plays the short sensible pass to our forward mids, across to the flanks or safely to a defender in space. Look at his stats, pass accuracy, tackles won etc etc. Yes he doesn’t score, neither did Claude, and his game isn’t sexy to watch but he makes us much more difficult to beat, very underrated. Yes there are better defensive midfielder’s out there but not by that much and they ain’t with us. Mikel is unsung – Torres not sure, feel sorry for him and good end to the season but insufficient return, no doubt. Maybe Jose could flick that switch…..KTBFFH
