Why Spurs will Finish Below Arsenal if they Lose vs Swansea

Why Spurs will Finish Below Arsenal if they Lose Against SwanseaSpurs have had a brilliant season thus far but their torrid form in the later stages may as well cost them Champions League place again like last year. Tottenham have lost their last 3 fixtures and perhaps a defeat against Swansea on Saturday may ensure that they will finish below Arsenal again.
Although, Gunners have been in unpredictable form this season but even after all the ups and downs, Arsene Wenger’s men are 5th in the league, find themselves only 4 points behind rivals Tottenham and more importantly with a game in hand.
Few weeks back Arsenal were ousted from the Champions League by Bayern who made sure the trophy less run continues. However, having defeated the German giants in their own backyard, Arsenal have hit from at perhaps the right time to push for top 4 spot.
Tottenham next face the capital one cup champions Swansea and Laudrup’s men are themselves not in good form as they have lost last 2 league games against West Brom and Arsenal.
Star players Bale and Michu will be the key for their respective sides on the day. Spurs beat Swansea at White Hart Lane in December but the Swans may hold stronger cards playing at the Liberty Stadium.
If the home side are somehow able to defeat Spurs and hand the visitors their 4th consecutive defeat then things may turn worst for Tottenham in their pursuit of qualifying for next year’s Champions League.
Looking at the upcoming fixtures of Arsenal and Spurs after this week, the Gunners have relatively easy ties against Baggies, Norwcih, Fulham and perhaps Everton at the Emirates Stadium. Adding to that, premier league is the only competition they have to focus on after getting eliminated from every cup competition.
On the other hand, Tottenham have Europa League quarter finals coming up next week and their next three league fixtures after Swansea i.e. against Everton, Chelsea and Manchester City could not have come at a worst time. The game against Toffees is sandwiched between the European ties, few days after the second leg versus Basel Spurs have to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and finally against champions a week later.
The road to qualification into Europe’s Elite competition is only getting harder for Spurs whereby Arsenal may take advantage with less tired players and the ones returning from injuries to snatch the Champions League place and once again finish above their North London rivals. The title race might be over, but things are very much heating up for the final champions league place.
