England Thrash Part Time San Marino Footballers

England Thrash Part Time San Marino FootballersWith England making the trip to San Marino for the World Cup Qualifier, it was not the case of would they win but by how many. San Marino team comprised of players that were mainly part time footballers and had no chance against brilliant English side who thrashed the home side 8-0.
203 places separate the nations in the FIFA world ranking and the difference in quality was inevitable. It took the visitors 12 minutes to open the scoring thanks to Della Valle’s own goal; unfortunately the 30 year old passed the ball into his own net to give England the lead.
As the clock ticked by, the visitors started to step up their play and tormented San Marino’s defense with constant pressure. The pressure paid off and in the 28th minute, young Oxlade-Chamberlain grabbed his second international goal much to the delight of Manager Roy Hodgson. The Arsenal player found himself involved in the third goal, heading down to set up Jermain Defoe who opened his account for the year by simply tapping the ball in the empty net.
San Marino were being completely ripped apart by England and minutes later Ashley Young scored the fourth goal of the night with a sublime long range effort and Simoncini had no chance saving that one. Captain Frank Lampard completed the first half rout as he calmly slotted the ball home after good work done by Everton left back Baines.
The home side must have been hoping that England were done for goals in the second half but that was not going to be as Wayne Rooney scored from a direct free kick in the 54th minute to make it 6-0.
With potential Group H decider coming up on Tuesday against Montenegro, England did not let up in their pursuit of good build up play as Young brilliantly set up Daniel Sturridge who made no mistake in scoring seventh of the night.
The humiliation was not over yet as Oxlade-Chamberlain combined well with Kyle Walker to set up Defoe’s second goal and England’s eighth. With Montenegro winning elsewhere, the three lions still lie in second place, 2 points of the group leaders leading to a mouthwatering tie to come on Tuesday.
